Nice ! that you have an Android phone. Great ! that you have installed many applications on it. But pain is that there are lot of applications which get updated ever now and then. So whenever your phone gets connected to internet, the market application check for the installed application updates.
At times, you need to turn off this option, let’s say to save data charges. Here is how you can disable update notification for android market application.
- Tap on Market application to open it.
- Press Menu and then Downloads.
- Press Menu again and select Notifications.
- Select “Do not notify me” option from the options and press OK to save.
That should be all to stop the automatic checking of updates for the installed applications.

Android marketplace via Google has seen fit to remove this option WITHOUT telling anyone.
I relied on this option heavily as there are many application updates that are unstable or worse, fail to offer worthy updates.
How do you turn off the notifications in the NEW market? The option is gone, and these constant notifications are driving me absolutely insane. I want to throw my phone through the wall. Every time I pick it up, there is a stupid, horrible icon telling me I have apps that can be updated. Duh!!!! I DON’T WANT TO UPDATE THOSE APPS!!!! I am so close to rooting my phone, deleting market altogether, and using APK only!!!!
Strange they remove this option the same the brands get rid of unlimited data plans. great timing fuqtards. allow us to disable update notifications if that is what we want. even microsoft allows us to turn off update notification if we so choose. terrible business practice.
OK. I did this. I force closed the market app and then cleared its data and cache. I then uninstalled the market updates (right there in the same app mgmt) and it reverted back to the old market with the ability to disable the update notificationss. It then updated itself again to the new market look but now I have a lot more options including the ability to disable the notifications.
Another hack around
I uninstalled Market update. Then the old version showed up and let me disable this feature.
Initially updates were disabled. Unfortunately I enabled them when trying to get the GPS to work. Rebooting the phone by taking the battery out fixed the GPS but then this annoying message kept recurring. Now maybe it won’t.
If Google wants me to update their going to have to give me back the option to stop receiving update notices. Good developers would preserve bandwidth and respect the user’s preferences.
All in all I’m not impressed with Android. Terrible phone.
